LG has brought in a level of sophistication to the Android platform, with the focus on design. The handset's simplistic yet slick design form is quite a contrast to the urbane hardware it is loaded up with. And with the launch of LG Optimus Black , LG has become the first phone to sport NOVA display, which indeed means it has an IPS screen of the quality (and resolution, 800 x 480) found on the Optimus Black with brightness capabilities extended. To add on, LG Optimus Black is brighter than any other Smartphones. The phone also features a 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal storage and supports up to 32 GB via this external source. An LG customized user interface is laid on the top of the otherwise basic stock Android UI. The UI helps to categorize your apps and create different sections. The sections can also be "folded" up to view others but it doesn't stay that way requiring you to scroll down to view what's below. We also have a choice to switch to a page or list view as an option. It has included quite a few gestures based controls, like tapping the sides to switch tracks or images.

Also, for the music enjoyment, the LG Optimus Black has got DivX and XviD codec support, with full HD playback support. Dolby Mobile audio enhancement and SRS Virtual Surround sound are also part of the package. The 5 megapixel camera can capture video in 720p resolution @30fps. The front possesses a secondary 2 megapixel camera for either video calling or taking your own picture, depending upon the use. Like the S II, it is provisioned with plenty of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, 3G and DLNA. With a depth of 9.2mm and just 109g weight, the Optimus Black is easily one of the slimmest and lightest Android phones around. Appearing similar to LG Optimus 2X , it packs less power with a 1GHz processor running Android 2.2.

With more advanced and upgraded things, there were few things still lacking. Like an indicator LED for missed calls or unread messages for when the handset is in sleep mode is missing, it also underperforms when it comes to battery. With regular browsing and standard use of the phone, be prepared to charge the system each next day. Also the sounds that range from loudspeakers are obvious and noisy enough. Calling oftentimes get worse to the point of making the other party sound computerized, which indeed is a problem of audio and antenna hardware used in it. But irrespective of the flaws, we believe that LG has revealed a good control by working within the phone's limitations.
