There has always been a set of aspirant who wishes to have a Blackberry. Sometimes the cost and sometimes the sturdy usage bound them from having one in their hands. Hence to tempt those buyers, Curve 3G 9300 is primarily aimed at first time BlackBerry users, or at least those who don't want to be overwhelmed with features, irrespective of the fact that it lacks many of the bells and whistles found on the company's higher end models. This model is basically an updated version of the Curve 8520 - RIM's previous entry-level model. But rather than merely rehashing that phone, RIM has added in some tempting extras, not least of which is support for 3G, something that the 8520 was sorely missing.

With a standard layout, along with a landscape screen at the top and a full QWERTY keyboard nested below, the phone sticks closely to the BlackBerry design blueprint. In context of measurement, the Curve 3G is quite small, measuring 109 x 60 x 14mm, this indeed makes it fit comfortably in our hand. The BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 launched with OS 5.0.0.832, we get both 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as the aforementioned 3.6Mbps HSPA 3G connection. Other specs and highlights include the usual BlackBerry trappings like the QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, BIS/BES support, and TeleNav. The 2.4-inch display is just QVGA although it is strange enough that BlackBerry App World does not come pre-installed. It enables the user to record unlimited call and made unlimited entries into phone book. The internal memory of this BlackBerry Mobile phone is 4GB which can be expanded up to 32GB via MicroSD slot card. Talking about the camera, it is one of the more disappointing aspects to the BlackBerry Curve 9300. With other smartphones pushing upwards of 8MP with 720p video recording, the Curve 3G comes in with a paltry 2MP shooter and no flash in sight. And with this it is not possible to take pictures under low-light conditions as the pictures it takes are mediocre at best. Although the multimedia player is a relief as every other BlackBerry, also it is nice to see the dedicated music controls on the top of the phone. Checking on the battery life, it is decent, and got through a day of moderate use without any worries. We need to bring the screen brightness down and turn off Wi-Fi to make sure we get through a busy day.

Hence, as an entry-level smartphone, it fares extremely well, handling all of the same functions as a higher-end BlackBerry without the embellishments of a nicer camera or higher-resolution screen. In spite of being the greatest Blackberry available, it is however, one of the most affordable BlackBerry devices available.
