The escalating demand for technology brings in new products every now and then. With this, it becomes very difficult for the manufacturers to differentiate their product from the rat race and bring in the magic that triumph over other products. Apart from this, it has been labeled as a 'Superfone' due to the fact that this is the first dual-core phone in the sub-20K price bracket.
Gracing the front is a 3.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 480x800 pixel resolution. With 5MP camera we can click and shoot quality pictures videos with HD recording capabilities. And around the screen, we have got the front-facing camera to make video calls, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor. Although it is no match for an amoled, the display stands up to the competitions similar LCDs in terms of sharpness and detail. The touch-sensitive Android buttons below the display respond well, but they are not backlit. It has a 1Ghz Tegra 2 dual core processor, 512MB RAM and 8GB onboard storage. But with the preloaded Android launcher & home screen, there is visible lag in navigation. Switch to the stock Android interface and the lag vanishes. Since the phone uses an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, it has access to the Tegra Zone from where we can download games that can utilize the dual core processor. In short all this makes it a great gaming phone as well. Micromax has preloaded the phone with many apps including those for social networking and system utility apps. As for the sound quality is concerned, we get excellent sound from the speaker- be it voice calls, music or ringtones. Micromax has also added toggle switches in the notification bar for Wi-Fi, Data, Bluetooth, etc, which is very thoughtful. The camera's still image performance is impressive, though due to the lack of a flash, using it in the dark is futile. Another fascinating addition is Micromax A85 has gesture control user interface which means we don't even need to touch our mobile to complete different task from our phone; we can even answer incoming call by just our hand gesture.
Like others, this Superfone has also got some loopholes to watch out for. The battery life is so weak that it last half a day after a full charge (with just a few calls and without data usage). By using highly compresses 3GP format, which results in below-average quality; it records 720p video. There is no TV-out and the phone does not support DivX/xvid video playback out of the box. The worst bit is the capacitive shortcut buttons on the front, which aren't too responsive, either and have no backlighting, thereby making it impossible to use it in the dark.
Hence, with all the pros and cons, as this phone offers multitasking functionality, exceptional web experience and console-quality gaming, it is worth considering for.
